Southampton visit bottom of the table in midweek clash

Southampton Women’s FC head to New Milton where they take on already relegated Poole Town in the FA Women’s National League Division One South on Tuesday night.

The game was originally scheduled to take place last month but due to the heavy rainfall experienced in March.

It has been a difficult season for the Dolphins who has just one point from 17 games and were relegated having scored just three goals this season.

Their solitary point was earned against Larkhall Athletic as Emma Acott cancelled out Rhian Robbins’ goal.

Things have been different for Southampton who have been involved in a tight title chase which was claimed on Sunday by Cheltenham Town.

For Aaron Smith’s side they are still aiming for a top three finish and also to bag some silverware with the SDFA Cup Final coming up in May.

The Reds had to be patient when they travelled to Portishead on Sunday as they couldn’t convert some of their chances.

Britt Jeal broke the deadlock in the 53rd minute with a lovely strike on the edge of the box.

The lead was doubled 20 minutes later by the attacking midfielder who chipped the ball over the goalkeeper who was caught off of her line.

It was a better second-half as Southampton ran out worthy winners and will be looking for more of the same this evening against the Dolphins.

When the two sides last met it was Smith’s side who ran away with the win as they put six past Poole.

Rachel Okoro scored twice in the first-half before the team kicked on with Sian Wylie, Chloe Tucker, Lauren Cheshire and Gracie White all found the net.y
