Southampton Women's FC is delighted to welcome back a familiar face, with former player Hope Suominen returning to the club as Assistant Manager and Vice Chair ahead of the 2026/27 season.
Hope previously represented the Sirens during the 2022/23 campaign under current First Team Manager Aaron Smith, becoming a valued member of the squad before suffering an ACL injury towards the end of the season.
Now, she returns to the club in a new capacity, bringing a fresh perspective and a passion for helping drive Southampton Women's FC forward both on and off the pitch.
Since rejoining the club, Hope has already become an integral part of the club's long-term planning, playing a key role in discussions surrounding its future direction. Her leadership, professionalism and understanding of the club's values have made her a natural fit for the role of Assistant Manager, where she will work alongside Aaron Smith and the coaching staff to support and develop the first-team squad.
Alongside her coaching responsibilities, Hope will also take on the position of Vice Chair, helping to shape the club's continued growth away from the pitch as Southampton Women's FC continues its journey to build a sustainable and successful future from the ground up.
Having experienced life as a Sirens player herself, Hope offers a unique perspective that will benefit the current squad. As a female member of the coaching staff, she will provide invaluable support and encouragement for players while acting as a role model for the next generation coming through the club.
Speaking on Hope's return, First Team Manager Aaron Smith said:
"Bringing Hope back to Southampton Women's FC will strengthen the club in so many ways. Our young players will be able to look up to someone who has worn the shirt and is now part of the first-team coaching staff, while our current squad will benefit from her playing experience and the journey she's been on.
Away from the pitch, Hope brings a wealth of knowledge in leadership and business management that will be invaluable as we continue to grow the club. She's already made a huge impact behind the scenes and I'm incredibly excited to have her alongside us. At a time when we're looking to raise the club's profile and build something special, the timing couldn't have been better."
Hope is equally excited to be returning to the club she once called home.
"It feels incredibly exciting and a bit surreal, but I'm absolutely delighted to be back home in a new capacity. The club's unique culture, ambition and the fantastic people involved made returning an incredibly easy decision. Plus, it's hard to say no to Smithy!
I'm excited to learn from the dugout, influence tactics, add leadership value from my personal experiences and professional career, and help guide this talented squad to fulfil its potential."
This appointment represents another important step in Southampton Women's FC's long-term vision, strengthening both the football and operational sides of the club as preparations continue for the 2026/27 season.
Keep an eye on our channels tomorrow for an exclusive interview with Hope, where she'll discuss her return to the club, her new roles and her ambitions for the future of the Sirens.
Welcome home, Hope.
