The Sirens welcome AFC Portchester Ladies to Test Park on Sunday for an important league clash, with both promotion contenders looking to strengthen their position near the top of the table.

Southampton will be eager to bounce back after last weekend’s 2–0 defeat to Winchester City Flyers ended their unbeaten league start. Portchester, meanwhile, arrive full of confidence following an emphatic 7–1 away victory over Chesham United.

The Opposition

AFC Portchester have collected 10 points from their opening league fixtures, with victories over Winchester City Flyers and Oxford City among their results. Their seven-goal display at Chesham underlined their attacking threat, and they will be looking to build on that momentum at Test Park.

The visitors also hold the edge from the sides’ most recent meeting, having secured a 2–1 victory here in the FA Cup earlier this season.

The Sirens

Southampton also sit on 10 points, having recorded three wins, one draw and one defeat from their opening five league games. Despite the disappointment against Winchester, their early performances have demonstrated the quality within the squad.

Facing familiar opposition gives the Sirens an opportunity to show a positive response, with home support behind them as they seek a return to winning ways.

What to Expect

With the teams level on points, Sunday’s encounter offers both the chance to gain ground on a close rival. Defensive organisation will be key for Southampton against Portchester’s in-form attack, alongside making the most of their own opportunities in the final third.
The Sirens have the added motivation of reversing September’s cup result, while the visitors will be targeting another successful trip to Test Park.

With plenty at stake, a competitive contest awaits.
