Southampton Women’s FC return to league action on Sunday as they welcome Winchester City Flyers. The Sirens are currently top of the league with 10 points from their opening four games, having recorded three wins and one draw, scoring 12 goals and conceding three.

However, Winchester will provide a difficult challenge. The Flyers currently sit fourth with six points from three matches. They have already shown their attacking threat this season, including an 8-1 victory over Beaconsfield Town.

Previous Meetings

There is plenty of recent history between the two sides, making Sunday’s contest an exciting one.

Winchester claimed a 3–2 victory at Test Park in March, but the Sirens won the most recent meeting in May, securing a 1–0 win to reach the SDFA Cup final. Those narrow scorelines highlight how closely contested this fixture can be, with Southampton now aiming for back-to-back victories over the Flyers.

Key Battle

Southampton’s defensive organisation could be crucial against a Winchester side capable
of scoring plenty of goals. The Sirens have conceded just three goals in their opening four
league games, while Winchester have already scored 12 in just three games.

For Southampton Women’s FC, maintaining their defensive solidity while creating
opportunities at the other end could be the difference.

What to Expect

With Southampton Women’s FC sitting top and Winchester sitting fourth, this promises to
be one of the more competitive fixtures of the weekend.

The Sirens will be hoping that home advantage and their unbeaten start can help them continue their strong opening to the campaign, while Winchester will be looking to cause
an upset and close the gap at the top of the table.
