Southampton Women’s FC moved to the top of the league with a convincing 3–0 victory away at Fleet Town. Goals from Lucy Mear, Aime Chiddle and Katie Ellwood secured another three points as the Sirens continued their unbeaten start to the league campaign.
The opening exchanges were competitive, with both sides looking for a breakthrough. Chiddle combined with Ellwood, whose shot was blocked, before Coulter recovered well to deny Fleet a shooting opportunity on the edge of the box.
Southampton began to build pressure, with Swain providing a threat out wide. Mear headed over from a corner before Ball came close to opening the scoring, only for her deflected effort to be cleared off the line.
The breakthrough arrived in the 26th minute. After Ball’s cut-back was intercepted behind for a corner, Mear arrived at the back post to head the Sirens into the lead.
Southampton remained patient in possession and doubled their advantage in the 37th
minute. Chiddle caused problems inside the box before calmly firing home to make it 2–0.
Coulter then shot over following a pull-back from Swain, while the Fleet goalkeeper
produced an excellent save to deny Ball at the back post shortly before the interval.

The Sirens started the second half brightly and thought they had added a third through
Ellwood, but her finish was ruled out for offside.
Ball continued to trouble the Fleet defence, forcing a save at the near post, before Mear
picked out Ellwood with a precise pass. Her effort was gathered by the goalkeeper, while
Hockey headed off target and Kaur struck the side netting.
Pietrzyk made an immediate impact after coming on, winning possession from a Fleet
defender before narrowly missing the target. Peattie also tested the goalkeeper following
an overlapping run, and Ball fired wide after being found by Stone’s lofted pass.
Fleet continued to search for a way back into the game, but Jenman helped protect
Southampton’s clean sheet. After comfortably saving an effort from distance, she produced
a crucial stop in the 82nd minute, tipping a one-on-one opportunity over the bar.
The Sirens sealed the result with two minutes of normal time remaining. Pietrzyk delivered
an excellent cross for Ellwood, who had just returned to the pitch and flicked her header
into the net.
Further chances followed in stoppage time, with Coulter volleying over and Chiddle
shooting narrowly past the far post. Southampton finished with three different goalscorers,
a clean sheet and a victory that sent them to the top of the table.
