MATCH REPORT | League Cup: Kidlington FC Ladies 0-9 Southampton Women's FC

Southampton Women's FC

The Sirens returned to winning ways with nine goals, a clean sheet and two first-team debuts to secure League Cup progression.

Southampton Women’s FC produced a dominant display at Kidlington to book their place in the next round of the League Cup with a 9–0 victory.

Following back-to-back league defeats, the Sirens responded with six different goalscorers. Katie Ellwood, Chloe Ball and Lucy Mear each scored twice, while Aime Chiddle, Chloe Tedman and Julia Pietrzyk also found the net.

The Sirens started brightly and threatened inside the opening two minutes when Pietrzyk threaded a pinpoint pass through to Ellwood, whose effort went narrowly wide of the far post.

Ellwood came even closer moments later, rattling the post after a strong run and cross from Ball as Southampton applied early pressure.

The breakthrough arrived in the 15th minute. Chiddle tried her luck from outside the box, curling her strike into the bottom corner to give the visitors a deserved lead.

Kidlington sent an effort over the bar, but Southampton continued to create the clearer opportunities. Tedman delivered a dangerous ball towards Pietrzyk at the back post, though her effort went just wide, before Ellwood was denied by the goalkeeper.

Ball doubled the advantage after 34 minutes, cutting inside and finishing into the bottom corner. Two minutes later, Chiddle was fouled inside the penalty area and Mear stepped up to convert from the spot.

The hosts’ goalkeeper made a good save to deny Pietrzyk, but the Sirens soon had another opportunity from 12 yards when Tedman was pushed inside the box. Mear converted her second penalty of the afternoon to make it four.

Tedman then produced an excellent challenge to halt a Kidlington counter-attack, helping Southampton take a commanding lead into the interval.

Southampton introduced Kaminski for her first-team debut at the break, with Katelyn Wort also entering the action.

The Sirens immediately threatened again as Pietrzyk was denied one-on-one by the goalkeeper. Ball then volleyed wide before Ellwood’s chipped effort drifted off target.

Ellwood got her goal in the 53rd minute, taking the ball around the goalkeeper and rolling it into the net. Ball followed two minutes later, finding the target with a volley to claim her second and Southampton’s sixth.

Kaminski showed encouraging signs on her debut, looking to release Pietrzyk before later demonstrating good footwork to escape pressure.

At the other end, Libby Carter came off her line to collect a Kidlington through ball before making way for Spratley, who became the Sirens’ second debutant of the afternoon in the 68th minute.

Pietrzyk continued to test the hosts’ goalkeeper, who produced another good stop to parry her effort behind, while Kaur fired over from distance.

The seventh goal came after 77 minutes. Following a foul on Kaur outside the box, Tedman struck from 30 yards to add her name to the scoresheet.

Pietrzyk’s persistence was rewarded five minutes later when she slotted home one-on-one with the goalkeeper. Ellwood then completed the scoring in the 85th minute, finishing a fine cross from Peattie to secure her second goal of the game.
