Southampton entered the fixture looking to build on their victory at Fleet Town, but were left frustrated as they struggled to turn promising passages of play into goals.
Megan Bowen was involved early on, showing her strength to deny Winchester possession before making an important interception to halt a counter-attack. At the other end, Katie Ellwood’s cross was comfortably claimed by Sayler, before the forward failed to connect cleanly with a shooting opportunity inside the opening 11 minutes.
Winchester broke the deadlock after 15 minutes when, what appeared to be an attempted cross from distance, looped over Libby Carter and into the net.
The Sirens looked to respond, with Aime Chiddle finding Chloe Ball out wide and Ellwood attempting to thread a pass through the visiting defence. However, Winchester remained a threat on the break, with Hay racing clear before lifting her effort over the bar.
Calla Swain then drove forward and cut inside, only to see both of her attempts blocked, before Ball fired over from inside the box.
Despite those opportunities, Winchester doubled their advantage in the 33rd minute, leaving Southampton with work to do. Bowen sent a long-range effort wide before the interval, and the visitors went into the break two goals ahead.

Southampton searched for a route back into the contest after the restart. Kaur made an overlapping run, but her cross deflected into Sayler’s arms, before Bowen tried her luck again from distance and sent her effort over.
The Sirens made a triple change in the 58th minute, introducing Jade Hockey, Dani Kjaer and Julia Pietrzyk for Ellwood, Sky Stone and Ball. Pietrzyk quickly won a corner as the hosts continued to push.
Bowen picked out Swain, who set up Kjaer for a cross, but the delivery failed to find a red shirt. Swain later sent another inviting ball into the box without a teammate able to meet it.
Ellwood returned to the action and headed wide in the 76th minute, while Hockey was unable to direct a header towards goal from Kjaer’s delivery with four minutes of normal time remaining.
Swain’s late effort from range was saved by Sayler before Carter produced an excellent low stop to turn Hay’s shot wide at the other end.
Southampton were unable to find a breakthrough, leaving Winchester to take the points and the Sirens to suffer their first league defeat of the campaign.
