MATCH REPORT: BADSHOT LEA 0-7 SIRENS

Southampton Women's FC10 Nov - 17:00

The Sirens won emphatically in Farnham.

The Sirens put in a professional display as the put seven past Badshot Lea, courtesy of braces from Kirby and Ball.

Badshot actually started brightly, as they broke twice in behind the Sirens backline early on, but captain Mear came to the rescue with a pair of superb sliding challenges.

However, the Sirens gradually grew into the game, with Ball providing a constant threat down the left wing as she was delivering dangerous crosses.

After a few early half-chances for Kirby and Lynn, the visitors found their breakthrough on 34 minutes. It was Ball’s pinpoint cross from the left was turned home by Kirby from close range.

The same combination linked up again for the second just eight minutes later as another low cross from Ball found Kirby who made no mistake again with the finish in the box to extend the lead to 2-0 at half-time.

The second-half started in dramatic fashion as the Badshot goalkeeper saw herself sent off after a taking out the Siren attacker on the edge of the penalty area.

Crooks then put away the resulting free-kick as the new opposition goalkeepers first action was to pick the ball up from the back of the net.

Just moments later, Ball was tripped in the area and after some deliberating the referee did point to the spot in the end after some confusion.

Mear stepped up and made no mistake from the spot to make it a four goal lead.

The Sirens showed no signs of slowing up, as Ball smashed one into the roof of the net just before Coulter drove down the right and hit one off the post to make it six.

Ball then got her second of the match as she got on the end of a terrific through ball and finished smartly passed the goalkeeper.

Crooks almost added an eighth as she hit a powerful volley that rattled the crossbar but the Sirens settled for just seven in the end.

A statement victory that see's the Sirens stay in second place.
