MATCH REPORT: OXFORD CITY 2-2 SIRENS

MATCH REPORT: OXFORD CITY 2-2 SIRENS

Southampton Women's FC16 Mar - 14:15

The Sirens continue their unbeaten 2026 in the league following a draw at the MGroup Stadium.

The Sirens were forced to settle for a point away at a wet and windy Oxford City, despite taking the lead through Kjaer in an eventful first half.

The Sirens made a bright start and went ahead in the ninth minute. Glover showed great footwork to dribble into the penalty area and although the ball broke loose, it fell for Kjaer, who curled a composed finish past the goalkeeper to give away side a 1–0 lead.

Oxford City responded strongly and drew level in the 20th minute when a forward found space inside the penalty area and fired a low effort into the bottom corner.

Just three minutes later the hosts turned the game on its head. A ball played in behind the Sirens defence was chased down by a City attacker, who rounded Jenman before slotting home to make it 2–1.

Southampton continued to push forward and nearly equalised when Lynn attempted an ambitious strike from well over 30 yards with the wind carrying the effort goalwards before the goalkeeper tipped it onto the crossbar.

But she did find the back of the net just before half-time. In the 40th minute the forward met the ball on the volley and fired a superb strike into the side netting to level the score at 2–2.

The Sirens finished the half strongly, with Ball forcing a good save after cutting inside from the left and Wort testing the goalkeeper from distance but the sides went into the break level.

The second half was a lot quieter than the first with chances coming at a premium. Jenman produced an excellent save down to her right to deny Oxford from close range, while Mear cleared the danger.

The visitors threatened from set pieces when a wind-affected corner caused problems in the City box but Soares saw her curling effort drift just wide of the post.

Further opportunities followed as Lynn headed over from a clever chipped ball by Mear, while Kaur also went close with a dipping strike from the edge of the area.

Jenman was called into action again late on, making another strong save from a tight angle to keep the scores level.

Southampton introduced Saunders who came on for her debut, Davies and Hicks during the second half in search of a late winner, but neither side could find a decisive goal and both had to settle for a point.
