Sian Wylie scored twice on her 50th appearance as the Sirens were victorious

A Sian Wylie second-half brace helped Southampton Women's FC overturn a two-goal deficit to win 5-2 at home to AFC St Austell in the league.

The Sirens found themselves 2-0 down after 16 minutes but reduced that in the first-half through a Shannon Sievwright penalty.

Shannon Albuery grabbed the equaliser before Wylie netted twice to put Southampton ahead with Jazz Nassar wrapping up the win just inside the box.

Southampton returned home to face relegation battling St Austell following a disappointing afternoon in Devon the previous week and with the fixtures coming thick and fast Aaron Smith utilised his squad making a few changes.

New centreback Libby Gilmore made her debut alongside Chloe Tucker while Summer Kilby, Katie Kingshott, E-J May, Emma Whitlock and Wylie all got starts.

It was a slow start for the Sirens who found themselves a goal down with less than three minutes played.

St Austell overturned possession and attacked with speed breaking through the defence before the initial shot was saved by Ellie Parker but Jasmine Allen quickly pounced to tuck home the opener.

Southampton were enjoying more of the ball in the opening exchanges but couldn't get a shot on target when the visitors doubled their lead.

Lucy Solloway was put under pressure by Gilmore however, she forced way into the box before managing to strike from just inside the box up and over Parker into the goal.

It continued to be all Southampton as Whitlock had several attempts to shoot but she was unable to test Caitlyn Rockett in the St Austell goalmouth.

Albuery and Wylie were the closest but again had efforts go just wide of the goal or were comfortably claimed by Rockett.

Just after the half-hour mark Albuery was brought down inside the box with the referee pointing to the spot.

Sievwright cooly dispatched the penalty to reduce the deficit to just one.

The visitors were defending well and reading the play well to keep Wylie and Albuery out.

Southampton started the second-half in the same manner that they had ended the first with plenty of the ball.

Gilmore lost her marker in the box but could only head Whitlock's cross wide before Albuery had a curled effort just graze past the corner of the goal.

With 59 minutes played Albuery drew the Sirens level as Rockett punched a Tucker up rather than out and the former Bournemouth striker was quick to head in her fifth club goal.

10 minutes later and Southampton found themselves in front for the first time that afternoon.

Sievwright from the edge of the centre circle put Albuery through who quickly turned her defender to drive towards the goal with Wylie keeping pace.

The striker had the option to shoot or square and opted for the latter as Wylie had left the recovering defenders for dust to tap in her 28th Southampton goal.

She soon made it goal number 29 when Kilby flicked the ball on for substitute Britt Jeal who played a lovely through-ball for Wylie to drive onto to shoot low across the goal.

Nassar was introduced at this point and wasted no time in netting her first goal in red.

A Sievwright corner was headed clear where Nassar was quickest to it for a first-time finish into the top corner.

It was a win that saw the Sirens go six consecutive wins at home in all competitions this season.
