Catch up on the most recent wins for Southampton Women’s FC

Southampton Women’s FC went eight games unbeaten in the FA Women’s National League Division One South West with wins over Portishead Town, Poole Town and Larkhall Athletic.

Britt Jeal bagged a brace in the 2-0 win over Portishead and she was at is again two days later against Poole.

Lucy Mear and Hannah Samuels were on target against the Dolphins as well as Jeal to help Southampton win 4-0.

There were plenty more goals against Larkhall on Sunday as Kiera Heslam, Summer Kilby, Chloe Tucker, Sian Wylie (2) and Samuels all scored in the 6-1 win.

Portishead Town 0 Southampton Women’s FC 2

The busy week started with the trip to Somerset over Portishead as side the Reds had beaten 7-0 earlier in the season.

Southampton were dominant on the ball in the first-half but wasteful in spell as they were met by a resolute defence.

Despite them having the lions share of possession changes were few and far better.

Wylie had the best chance past the half hour mark after she overturned possession to drive at goal and drill the ball narrowly over the crossbar.

The Portishead goalkeeper denied Kilby her first goal for the club before Jeal was perfectly setup by Sam Burt but couldn’t put the conviction behind the ball to test the keeper.

There were changes at half-time that gave the team a lift as they pressed Portishead from the restart.

Eight minutes into the second-half Jeal produced the magic to break the deadlock.

The attacking midfielder created the chance as she battled for space before smashing the ball from the edge of the area into the back of the net.

Southampton’s domination continued and thought they had a second following a goalmouth scramble but Portishead kept it out.

With 15 minutes remaining Jeal was at it again as she chipped the keeper from a lovely Aliss Wheeler ball in behind the defence.

It was a strong finish to the game for the Reds but they couldn’t add more goals to their tally.

Poole Town 0 Southampton Women’s FC 4

Just two days later Southampton were back in action on the road again this time a shorter trip to New Milton to play Poole.

16-year-old Maddison Stanbury made her starting debut for the club having received her debut two weeks prior at Chesham United.

It was another game the Reds had previously dominated in the earlier meeting between the two sides and the game started in the same fashion.

The first-half was similar to the Portishead game two days previously except the visitors were continuously creating chances in front of goal.

Emily Wernham, Wylie and Jeal were causing problems for Poole but their shots at goal failed to hit the target before Kellie Warren had a great chance well saved by the keeper.

Heslam and Lauren Cheshire were both close to scoring as the game headed towards the break before Emma Whitlock saw her corner claimed on the line.

Aaron Smith made a double change for the second game in a row at half-time which saw Jeal pushed up front and it worked as the deadlock was broken within a minute of the restart.

It was a quick start to the half as the ball was played long were Samuels knocked it down perfectly into the path of Jeal who neatly finished into the bottom corner.

Just shy of the hour mark Jeal got her second of the game as she drove into the box from Cheshire’s pass to shoot and her shot deflected over the keeper.

11 minutes later and Mear had got the third as the Poole keeper spilled a well delivered Whitlock free-kick.

The ball fell behind the keeper and into the path of the centre back to tap home.

Samuels had the game wrapped up in the 79th minute as she volleyed in her first goal of the season from Sam Burt’s cross.

Southampton Women’s FC 6 Larkhall Athletic 1

Larkhall were the visitors for Southampton’s final home game of the season as the Reds returned to Arlebury Park.

Southampton were quick out the blocks and found themselves 2-0 up inside 12 mintues thanks to two goals in two minutes.

Heslam curled in the first as Mear brought the ball down and into her path.

The second was volleyed in from Samuels at the back post as she raced onto the ball after it has smashed the crossbar from Jeal’s shot.

Kilby got into the action as she was set by Rachel Okoro to shoot low into the corner having gotten the beat of the keeper, the first goal for Southampton for the midfielder.

With less than half and hour played Southampton found themselves 4-0 up as Heslam’s corner was wonderfully volleyed in by Tucker.

There were several other chances for the team to score more but the Larkhall keeper claimed well to deny Samuels and Jeal.

Things changed in the second-half as Larkhall sat deeper as they looked to keep the scoreline down.

Wylie had come on just prior to the hour mark and within eight minutes was on the scoresheet.

A good cross into the box was not cleared by the defenders with Wylie and Okoro lurking as the ball was nodded down for the former right back to volley home.

Larkhall did get a goal back with 10 minutes remaining but it was little to late and then in the 90th minute Wylie pounced on the loose ball the six-yard box to make it 6-1.
