Southampton Women’s FC are proud to announce an exciting new partnership between Sirens Youth and Southampton Aztecs, one of the leading futsal clubs in the country, designed to further enhance the technical development and future opportunities of our young players.
This collaboration will see Sirens Youth working closely with Southampton Aztecs to introduce more players to futsal, which is a fast-paced, highly technical indoor format of the game that is widely recognised as a key tool in elite player development. Through the partnership, Sirens players will gain valuable experience in futsal environments, helping to sharpen ball mastery, speed of thought, and decision making under pressure.
As part of the agreement, Sirens Youth staff will also undertake England Futsal–delivered coaching qualifications, ensuring futsal principles are embedded within our development pathway. This not only strengthens our coaching provision but also opens further opportunities for young players to access the England futsal talent pathway.
The partnership aims to increase the number of Southampton Women’s FC players representing Southampton Aztecs in futsal alongside their outdoor football, creating well-rounded players equipped with stronger technical skills that translate across both formats of the game. Already, several Sirens players from both senior and youth sections are competing for Aztecs and progressing within England futsal pathways which proves the potential of this partnership.
At the conclusion of the outdoor football season, Southampton Aztecs and Sirens Youth will jointly host the first Sirens/Aztecs Futsal Tournament, marking another milestone in the growing relationship between the two clubs.
About Southampton Aztecs
Southampton Aztecs were formed in May 2021, initially launching with a single senior women’s team. In a remarkable first season, the team earned promotion to the National Futsal Series, the top tier of futsal in England, and just five months after formation recorded their first-ever victory live on BT Sport.
Since then, the club has grown significantly, adding a women’s reserve side, a men’s senior team, and expanding into youth futsal. Today, the Aztecs operate three senior teams, six youth teams, and run the Southampton Youth Futsal League, playing a key role in the local futsal ecosystem.
The club boasts international representation across the England Women’s Senior Team, England Deaf Team, England U19 and England U17 squads, and continues to make history. In August 2024, the Aztecs became the first English women’s futsal team to play a match in Africa, travelling to Tangier, Morocco. They have also competed across Europe in France, Spain, Gibraltar, Belgium, the Netherlands, and most recently the Czech Republic.
A Shared Vision
Speaking on the partnership, Aztecs Head Coach Will said:
“The Aztecs are a small, dedicated family club with ambitions of growing the game locally. The futsal infrastructure in England is quite some way behind countries like France, Spain, Belgium, and the Netherlands. By partnering with Southampton Women’s FC, we hope to spread the joy of the game to many more girls — whether their pathway lies in football or futsal — while also helping coaches to develop their futsal knowledge.”
Futsal is widely credited with shaping some of the greatest players in football history, including Pelé, Ronaldinho, and Lionel Messi. Played in tight spaces with constant involvement, futsal develops close control, creativity, and rapid decision-making.
With the first-ever FIFA Women’s Futsal World Cup taking place in the Philippines this November, and the England women’s futsal team having taken to the court for the first time last year, the sport is experiencing rapid growth. This partnership reflects a shared commitment to ensuring local girls can access those opportunities.
Together, Sirens Youth and Southampton Aztecs aim to build a stronger, more diverse development pathway — one that equips players with the skills, experiences, and confidence to thrive, whether their future is on the grass, the futsal court, or both.
