Southampton Women’s FC look to kick start life at Test Park with a win as their league campaign gets underway with the visit of Keynsham Town.

The Sirens fell to a 2-1 defeat in the FA Women’s National League Cup Determining Round away to Division One South East side Cambridge City.

Eva Hubbard and Jessica Wood put the hosts ahead despite Southampton threatening more and Britt Jeal scored her first of the season as the visitors attempted a late comeback.

Jeal linked up well with new signing Izzie Thorogood but it was merely a consolation as the Sirens now head into the League Plate.

Sunday’s encounter against Keynsham is the first league game of the season for Southampton following the opening day postponement with Moneyfields.

Town did play on the day of the FIFA Women’s World Cup Final and were on the losing side of a seven-goal thriller against Maidenhead United.

Hannah Price put Keynsham ahead within two minutes before the Magpies levelled thing in the 19th minute.

Last season’s top goalscorer for the K’s, Naomi Clipston, scored two but it wasn’t enough as Maidenhead kept pushing and come out on top winning 4-3.

In League Cup action as well last Sunday Keynsham also fell to a 2-1 defeat to Division One South East opposition in the form of Queens Park Rangers.

Vicky Vipond put Keynsham ahead but QPR fought back with two well worked goals to take the wn and progress into the cup.

It’s now back to league action and a familiar foe for the Sirens.

Keynsham are in their second season back at Tier 4 following relegation in 2022 and it was Southampton who came out on top in both meetings last season.

A 2-0 win at the A J N Stadium and a 5-0 at Redbridge Community School saw the Sirens pick up maximum points against Town.

Jeal scored a goal in both encounters while midfielder and now Vice Captain Shannon Sievwright scored a brace in the game at Redbridge.

Heading into the game manager Jamie Lloyd Davies will be boosted with the return of several senior players giving him plenty of options to pick from including Club Captain Kirsty Whitton who has now served her one game suspension.

Sievwright is likely expected to still be out as she works her way back to fitness following her injury in pre-season.
