Southampton Women's FC have a rest bite from league action as they host Bridgwater United on Sunday in the First Round of the FA Women's National League Plate.

It is a competition that saw the Sirens reach the semi-finals of last season following wins against Hounslow, Swindon Town and Billericay Town.

They came unstuck against the eventual winners Leeds United who were 2-0 winners over Southampton.

After a tough start to season that saw Southampton lose their opening four games in all competitions they broke that record last Sunday picking up a point against Abingdon United.

Izzie Thorogood connected with Erin Bloomfield's chipped pass but United were persistent and benefited from some miscommunication to grab an equaliser.

Bridgewater have had a mixed start to the season following relegation from the National League Southern Premier.

They lost their first three games in all competitions including back to back defeats against AFC Bournemouth before picking up big wins against Selsey and Portishead Town.

Another defeat came against the promoted side Abingdon before they earned a 2-0 win over Maidenhead United.

It's been a turbulent time for Bridgwater who five seasons ago were competing in the Women's Super League as Yeovil Town but have since gone through two name changes since their last season in England's top league.

Sunday's League Plate encounter is the first time the two sides will have played each other, a battle of two teams steeped in history but looking to create a new legacy.
