The thoughts of the manager following the pre-season defeat to London Bees

I can’t fault the effort from the group as they worked extremely hard and tried to implement our game model throughout.
- Jamie Lloyd Davies, First Team Manager

Southampton Women's FC boss Jamie Lloyd Davies said he was happy with the progress his side is making despite the result against London Bees on Sunday.

The Sirens travelled to the North West of London to take on the FA Women's National League Southern Premier side.

Bees got off to a quick start scoring twice before adding a third in the 20th minute.

Britt Jeal returned to the squad and scored on the edge of half-time to reduce the score but it wasn't enough as the London side continued to show their strength by adding another two in the second-half.

Lloyd Davies was pleased to have the chance to take on a tough, experienced side.

He said: "It was a fantastic opportunity for us to face an opponent that is in a higher league, going through similar transitions as us.

"They were very well organised and mixed their game up well, including being a real physical test.

"Regarding our game, I can’t fault the effort of the group as they worked extremely hard and tried to implement our game model throughout.

"Of course, there are things for us to go away and learn from, but I was still pleased with the way we built attacks and had some great spells of possession.

"Despite the result, still really pleased with the progress made as part of the process and the intentions that we hope to achieve moving forwards."

The Sirens are only three weeks into pre-season with fitness levels and cohesion slowly coming together alongside the rebuilding of the squad ready for the new season in August.

While the core of last season's squad has remained, Lloyd Davies has made quick work to bring in new faces on and off the field to improve the team.

Lloyd Davies added: "Of course, it’s still very early days, and there is a lot more detail that we want to add and refine, but I'm happy with the progress that the group has made, and we’re still excited about the ways we are moving forwards.

"They’ve all fit in brilliantly," he said on the new signings.

"The quality that we’ve been able to add has been excellent, and everyone is really buying into how we want to play, but more importantly, play an important part in upholding and evolving our club values.

"We’re very happy with the group that we have and we are excited about the new players that we have signed and continue to look to strengthen further."

Simon Harrison appointed as First Team Assistant Manager

Lloyd Davies made his second coaching signing by bringing in Simon Harrison to be his Assistant Manager.

He said: "Simon is a wonderful person, I’ve had the pleasure of working with him before, and he has an incredible CV with a Sports Science degree, a Master in Performance Analysis, a UEFA B Licence, and is also starting teacher training this year for his main role in Further Education.

"He’s got so much to offer to the group and the management team and I am excited to get to work with him as we work towards the new season."
